1.
A Barricade 01:57
Last night I dreamt of knee deep snow The kind you and I will never know The kind that never seems to go away The kind that keeps you here at home Blanket pulled up to your nose A barricade against the cold Because I don't want you to go Last night I dreamt of knee deep snow
2.
New Year 02:55
"I thought you quit," I said as I watched her light her cigarette. A wry smile. She shrugs, "Please, not this again. It's always worse this time of year." I let it drop and warm my hands up on her coffee cup. She says, "At least you're doing fine." I say, "I still can't sleep at night." Her fingers pull and twist her napkin into bits. I say, "I never thought that you'd come home." She asks, "Has it always been this cold?" The headlights' glare illuminates her and her vacant stare. She says, "I really hate it here." "Guess we could all use a new year." The steam from my mouth twists into the smoke from hers. We watch it swirl and disperse.

4.
These gold rings we wear Were designed To ward off these old ghosts When will you leave again? Will you finally do the darkest things I fear the most? Circle in Retreat and hold We're both getting older Is this what we've settled for? I wake with a start at night This bed is cold You're still sleeping on the couch You never meet my eyes Never say a word You ignore the hand I'm holding out Circle in Retreat and hold We're both getting older Is this what we've settled for? Circle in Retreat and hold Repeat this holding pattern But I can't hold out anymore
5.
I don't want to write I don't want to speak Nothing would sound right Except the shuffling of your feet The bleeding of your songs The crashing of the beat Pushing through the walls Scraping through your teeth There's no more melody Drowning in the noise Struggling to breathe Desperate for your voice Or any muffled sound The squeaking of the strings Your fingers wrapped around The throat of your disease But I can't hear the kick drum
